Gavi wins Kopa Trophy

Barcelona midfielder Gavi has won the Kopa Trophy for the best player under the age of 21.

The 18-year-old won the award beating the likes of Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga, Bayern’s Jamal Musiala and Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

The previous winners of the award includes fellow team-mate Pedri, who won it last year, Matthijs de Ligt and Kylian Mbappe.

“I want to thank my family, my agent and everyone at La Masia,” said Gavi while collecting the award.

“Also, I want to thank Barca, my lifetime club and my team-mates, and the national team, and my coaches. I wouldn’t be here without them.

“It makes me proud to see Pedri here. I spend so many hours with him and I see everything he does, how he gives everything in every training session, in every game. It’s an honour to play with him and I hope we can play on together for many years.”

Last season, Gavi played a total of 47 matches in all competition, scoring six goals and providing five assists.

Other players that were nominated according to their rankings are Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain), Josko Gvardiol (RB Leipzig), Ryan Gravenberch (Bayern), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Karim Adeyemi (Borussia Dortmund) and Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen).
