Daniele De Rossi: Former midfielder appointed new SPAL coach

SPAL have announced former Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi as their new head coach.

The 2006 World Cup winner with Italy has just signed his contract until 2024.

The Serie B side sacked Roberto Venturato following their 2-0 loss to Frosinone, leaving the team in 14th place after 8 matches of the new season.

De Rossi joined Italy national team boss Roberto Mancini coaching staff ahead of the Euro 2020 which the Azzurri won.

The 39-year-old was a Roma player for 18 years and won the Copa Italia in 2007 and 2008.

He joined Argentina giant Boca Juniors in 2019 and played briefly before retiring in January of the following year.

De Rossi played 117 matches for Italy national team, scoring 21 goals, before retiring in 2017.

He will now join Fabio Cannavaro, Fabio Grosso and Filippo Inzaghi, three of his World Cup-winning teammates as coaches in Serie B.
