Sevilla have this night sacked head coach Julen Lopetegui following their 4-1 thrashing earlier in the UEFA Champions League with former coach Jorge Sampaoli expected to replace him.
Lopetegui managed 170 matches at Sevilla winning the UEFA Europa League title in his first season.
In total, the Spaniard had 89 wins, 45 draws and 35 defeats for the Spanish club.
The former Real Madrid boss started the current season in a poor form winning only once in seven games in the league, losing four of those with two draws.
On sacking Lopetegui, a statement read: “The club wish to underline and thank the Basque coach for his professionalism and hard work in the more than three years he spent at the club, as well as wishing him the best of luck and the best of success in his future endeavours.”
The 56-year-old has appeared as a likely man to replace Bruno Lage at Wolves, who was sacked three days ago.
In 2016, Lopetegui was linked with the job at Molineux but instead became the manager of the Spanish national team, before losing the job in 2018, two days to their World Cup opener against Portugal.
