Manchester United have reacted to Cristiano Ronaldo interview with Piers Morgan, released on Sunday night.
The club said in a statement: “Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo. The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.
“Our full focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans.”
In the interview with Morgan, Ronaldo said the Manchester club has “betrayed” him and made him a “black sheep”.
Ronaldo, who returned late to United’s pre-season training, said his three-month-old daughter was sick and hospitalised in July, with him choosing to stay back. He said the senior executives at the club didn’t believe him, and he felt “hurt” in the process.
Ronaldo said he is blamed for all that has gone wrong at the club, with the Old Trafford outfit forcing him out.
He said Erik ten Hag doesn’t have respect for him and he reciprocates the same gesture.
Ronaldo said that nothing has changed since his former boss Alex Ferguson left the club.
He said he tried signing for Manchester City last year, but Ferguson told him to join United instead.
Cristiano Ronaldo added that his focus is on winning the World Cup with Portugal and then coming back to try and resolve things one way or another at United.
